Due to my prior medical problems my shoulders and neck tend to tighten into thick knots on a fairly frequent basis. This leaves me in quite a bit of pain most of the time. Some days are better than others and although heating pads, exercise, and self massage seems to work much of the time, sometimes a good massage therapist is necessary to work out all the kinks. About a month ago I began visiting a massage therapist not far from my home.
Prior to that I used to ask for gift certificates to spas from my parents and in-laws for just about every special occasion. Birthdays, Christmas, you name it, I would ask for one thing and one thing only: a certificate to the spa. As the years have worn on I’ve expanded from massages to pedicures, manicures, facials, and all sorts of various body treatments. Nothing can make a week’s worth of tension melt away quite like an hour at the spa.
Last year I found out about spa week. Essentially, it’s a marketing gimmick that provides spa treatments at participating spas for as little as $50. (Well many of you will say $50 isn’t all that little, but most of these treatments regularly cost $100.) Spa week occurs twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall.
Next week, October 15 – 21, kicks off the fall edition of spa week in Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Florida, Minnesota, New York, Philadelphia, Toronto, and Washington, DC. If you’ve always wanted to take a trip to the spa or if you just need a little relaxation you should definitely check out the spa week website for spas in your area. I’ve been saving my gift certificate for this very occasion and have already booked my appointment.
