At least two days a week I drive from College Park, Maryland to Northern Virginia. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the traffic around the Washington, DC area, let me tell you that this 29.4 mile drive can take anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours, and that’s not including major traffic accidents, which can extend the trip another few hours. The trip is mind numbing… stuck on the beltway in bumper to bumper traffic.
I’m still spoiled and shouldn’t really complain. After all, I drive to Virginia only a few times a week for now, I realize I could be forced to drive out there every day.
Just last week I started looking into ways to amuse myself on the long commute. I considered buying books on tape, but realized these days books on tape are really books on CD, and my old ’94 Regency Elite only has a tape player. Interestingly my husband whose commute has also doubled, has recently been contemplating the same issue. His entertainment solution… Sirius satellite.
On Sunday we headed out to Best Buy to purchase two Sirius satellite car kits for $69.99 each. Today… rather than sitting in mind-numbing traffic, listening to horrible talk radio, I got to roll down the windows and sing along to music I haven’t listened to in years. For the first time in a year, I arrived to work smiling.
