I too am celebrating my first mother’s day! My baby girl was born in January, she just turned 4 months and I have put some thought into how I wanted to spend this day with her. I am a single mother working full time so I wanted to make sure I took the day off to spend the whole day focusing on just me and her and nothing else. You are lucky to be able to stay home with your son. I cherish the moments that I have with my daughter as my time with her is limited. I wanted to commemorate this mother’s day by making handprints of our hands and hope to make this something we do every year. Hope your have a wonderful Mother’s Day no matter how you commemorate it it’ll be special.

By the way I'm with you on public bathrooms. Why don't more of them have changing stations? My husband and I often resort to changing him in our car. It's a tiny, 1999 Toyota Camry so that's not always easy either!

I began to Google “first mother’s day” and came across your page. I enjoyed reading your post as my baby boy was also born last October and I haven’t yet put much thought into what to do for a first mother’s day. I’m still not sure what I’m going to do, probably going to give my husband the challenge of planning, but your post reminded me that this is a special day for a first time mom and now I want to be sure I make an effort to make it memorable. Thank you.

I’m a little late, but I wanted to tell you my first Mother’s Day story — it was only last year. Last Mother’s Day, my daughter was only 2 months ago, and my husband and I planned a nice picnic outing at a local winery. All the food and baby gear was packed up, and we were only on the road for 5 minutes when I remembered that I didn’t change the baby’s diper before we left the house. We stopped at my parent’s house to change the diaper (it’s on the way to the winery) and, of course, the baby started crying, and I fetl overwhelmed.

We ended up taking a blanket from my parent’s house out to their backyard and having our picnic there. My mom was a little surprised to see us there when she got home, but it was a very nice day. I was very tense whenever I took the baby out when she was that little, so it was probably better anyway. (I still hate changing diapers in public restrooms — there just isn’t enought space — so that wasn’t the last time I stopped at my parents’ for s surprise diaper change)

In reply to Sense. I did ask the hubby to take the early morning shift, but after that's over I want to spend the rest of the day hanging out with both my husband and my little one. I'll ask for a day of reprieve at some point, but probably not on mother's day :-)
