Love this concept. When I retired I had a hard time parting with my money after years of saving. Now I have finally loosened up and am enjoying purchases of things that make me happy, like my new grand piano, a big screen TV, and taking my adult kids on vacation.
I'm adding this to my Fawcett's Favorites on Monday.
Thanks,
Dr. Cory S. Fawcett

I've learned not to regret it either! It's been a long time coming, but it feels so good to pull out my credit card without feeling guilty or regretful!

Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone in this one. I've definitely gotten better over the years. I think it takes time for some of us.

I know what you mean. For so many years I was reluctant to spend on myself. I'm still like that sometimes, and I still ask myself a list of questions in a store before I buy things- how will I use this, where will I put it, do I have a similar item, what will I wear this with and do I have any occasion to wear this? I've relaxed a bit now that we have enough money that I feel "safe.". I still beat myself up a but over spending mistakes, but far less than I used to

I love this topic, and I couldn't agree more. It's important to healthy spend on things that will bring you joy. For me this might include paying $100 for a nice golf club, or $1,000 for an even nicer telescope. I don't do it very often, but when I do, I never regret it.

I love that PiC supports you in this aspect of your finances and encourages you to spend on yourself. It helps to have someone cheering in your corner. I'm also glad that you now have more room in your life to support those you love and still use a little for your wants. Bumping ourselves to the top of the priority list is tough.

After MANY years of refusing to spend on myself, and living with PiC who gently nudged nudged nudged me away from making myself a non priority, plus therapy and the pandemic, I've finally developed a more healthy willingness to spend on my desires and not just my needs (or not even my needs). I still hear that voice whispering that ethically, spending on a little more pleasure for myself instead of helping someone else is the unworthy choice at times but we are financially stable enough to try to do both regularly now and that makes a big difference.
