In academia we use the term money scripts. klontz is an author who focuses in this area and has written much about them. The biggest thing is to understand that when they first created they served a useful purpose to help describe the world or where a useful tool. However we change over time and don’t tend to examine these scripts that play in our head all the time. This is when we need to review those old beliefs about money and see if they are helping or holding us back.

Interesting. Everyone compares themselves to others when it comes to money. I think it is natural…unfortunately.

In reply to Budget Life List. Yeah, I had a conflicting childhood as well, grew up mostly with affluence, but also saw financial struggles and overspending. At times I think that I am overspending as well, but I think I’ve managed a good balance between saving and spending. Still there are money blocks every day that my wife and I both work through.

Money blocks are hard.

I grew up with a bit of affluence but as an adult, I pursued a career that didn’t provide the same lifestyle. I am still struggling with the scarcity mindset, yet I do things like donate and travel.

So….basically my money block is a work in progress. ‍♀️
