@Steveark, It sounds like you admire your wife immensely and see the value she provided to your family. I love that she has so many hobbies and interests and most of all that you supported her the same way that she supported you. Thank you for this beautiful comment.

My wife left her career as a school teacher 33 years ago and never went back to an outside job. I had a high profile, high paid and high demand job and the partnership of her handling the bulk of the kids, house, yard, cars, groceries, cooking and cleaning let me focus on work. It can be a powerful combination because I earned much more than most two income families and she was able to shift more to hobbies after the kids left the nest. Consequently she has an identity as a tennis champion, a marathon winner, a pickle ball killer, an all day hiker, a bass catcher, a gourmet chef and a whiz carpenter. I share a lot of those identities with her and our shared activities keep us close in our 45th year of marriage. It required a lot of trust on her part that I'd fulfill my vows. I could never have achieved what I did in my career without her as my foundation and I feel like she's confident she made the right choice for her raising three good adults. Now in retirement we travel, play and volunteer and life is good. You never really know if you made the best choice, but you can look back and know you made a good choice.
