Thanks. That’s true. Due to COVID we haven’t been able to use this resource as much as possible, but in regular times the library would be an amazing resource. Right now we can only order books and pick them up outside during designated times.

That’s great that CO has a school program for homeschooling families. Is it online or offline? We don’t have anything like that here and a lot of homeschooling parents are against a state run program. They feel like that would constrict the current system, which is extremely flexible. I don’t feel one way or another about it, but a LOT of families in the local facebook group get very intense about this topic.

We will send them back to school at some point in time, but I’m not sure when yet. It could be as early as next year or after that time. In COVID times it’s tough for the kids to get social interaction. If sports were open in our area or homeschooling co-ops and we felt comfortable letting them get together with other kids it would be easier to try out all aspects of homeschooling. Right now, we are just taking it one year at a time.

Worst case is your kids selecting a couple of books to read for the week.

I homeschool my son (st grade) and go through phases of being very frugal and others where I’m really not being that careful with my pennies. That said, we ended up getting a free curriculum from the school district this year! We are in Colorado, and they have a wonderful school program for homeschool kids here which is how that worked out. We are in homeschool coops and do share some memberships, and get discounts as educators. Being FI, homeschooling is absolutely fantastic because we can take off and travel as we wish, without missing school! I just brought my son to CampFI South East, and tied a full-on vacation in with it. worked out wonderfully!
