Beware of the ‘free’ classes some stores offer. They can just be a way to get you involved in some activity which they sell materials for. The tenor of scrapbooking in the US currently is incredibly marketing driven, with all kinds of stuff being sold. Similarly for things like cake decorating, baby-proofing (all those gadgets they will tell you that you need), fly fishing and so on. The ‘free’ classes are only a deal if you can distinguish between what you really need and what they’ll try to sell you.

That’s a great point. You do need to make sure that you aren’t signing up for ‘sales pitches.’
