What Money Can’t Buy

I’ve spent the last four weeks watching my mom suffer. She’s been laying in a hospital bed since mid-March. A sudden and unexpected intestinal perforation has shut down her entire digestive system. She is unable to eat or drink. A nasogastric tube is the only thing preventing her from aspirating.

No one could have predicted this would happen. The doctors aren’t even sure what perforated her intestines. As I watch her writhe in pain I feel entirely helpless. I hope that the doctors will fix her ailments, but I am also incredibly fearful.

I think a lot about money, but this is a stark reminder that money cannot fix everything.

  1. I’m so sorry about what your mom went through. How is she now?

My mom just suffered from a stroke which left her left side paralyzed. She’s still recovering now. It really is painful watching someone you love (who you thought would always be healthy) suffer.

    • Hi Shirley, I am sorry to hear about your mom. It is incredibly difficult to watch loved ones suffer. My mom is still alive, but she did not fully recover and I don’t think she will ever will. It’s hard to see, because right before this event she was vivacious and full of life. I do keep hoping that she will stumble upon a treatment that can help her. I wish your mom the best of luck in her recovery!
