Best Gifts for a Two Year Old

I’m not a fan of overwhelming children’s birthdays with towers of gifts. In fact, last year my husband and I purchased only one gift for my son’s birthday and two for Christmas. In lieu of gifts I typically encourage my family to contribute to my son’s 529, but I can’t force them to be practical, so this year I gave in and created an Amazon wish list.

Many of the toys on this list include warnings about small parts, but my son doesn’t put anything into his mouth these days, so I’m not worried. I also supervise him exclusively when we play with anything that might be dangerous.

Here is my list in no particular order.

  1. Step2 WaterWheel Activity Play Table (because my son adores water)
  2. Classic Doodler With 2 Stampers, Classic Blue (something to occupy him on long car rides)
  3. Little Helper Broom Set (because he loves to help mommy)
  4. Fat Brain Toys Tobbles Neo (fun building shapes)
  5. California Baby Bubble Bath Calendula — 13 fl oz (nontoxic bubble bath)
  6. Crayola Washable Watercolors 24ct Pan w/brush (for a little art time)
  7. Quercetti Georello Kaleido Gears, 55 pieces (for my little engineer)
  8. Educational Insights Design and Drill Activity Center (for my little builder)
  9. Battat Take Apart Crane (more toys for my little engineer)
  10. Battat Take Apart Airplane (more toys for my little engineer)
  11. VTech Kidizoom FFP Camera (for my future photographer)
  12. Gymnic / Rody Inflatable Hopping Horse, Lime (too work out a little energy on a rainy day)
  13. HexActly (more fun building toys)
  14. Gears! Gears! Gears!Ā® Beginner’s Building Set (more engineering toys)
  15. Gears! Gears! Gears!Ā® Motorized Spin & Glow Building Set (more engineering toys)
  16. Silicone Alphabet Letter Ice / Bake Tray Set (so many great uses for this)
  17. Night of the Moonjellies: 15th Anniversary Edition (a beloved book)
  18. Maxim Everearth Junior Racer (a fun little race track)
  19. Chicco Red Bullet Balance Training Bike (his first bike)
  20. KidKraft Ride Around Train Set and Table (first train set)

  1. My kids both love various little people sets we have! They make fun airplanes and farm sets, if you don’t have them. Also, does he have a baby doll at all? I love seeing the nurturing instincts baby dolls bring out in all little ones!

    • We received a bunch of little people sets as hand-me-downs from my brother, but my son shows absolutely no interest in them. He does play with baby dolls I had as a kid and yes it is adorable to see him make soup to feed the baby or kiss his boo-boos šŸ™‚

  2. My daughter loves her play kitchen. She got it for Christmas last year when she was almost two and has played with it almost every day since then.

She also really likes these Brain Quest workbooks my husband picked up at Barnes and Noble. We actually have the preschool, kindergarten, and 1st grade books. Some of the activities are a little advanced for her, but she loves to look at them. We keep them in the bathroom, and they are her potty books! It is funt o see her learn to do problems (things like mathcing, rhyming, telling very basic time) that she didn’t understand just a few months ago.

    • Oh – play kitchens are great! I notice little girls seem more interested in them then my son, but he definitely wonders over to his every so often to prepare a meal. Ours has a little burner that lights up and makes sounds and for awhile that was his favorite part, well that and opening each and every door šŸ™‚

I’ll have to check out the brain quest books. I bet my son would love those too.
