Notes to Myself

Every day I jot down random notes. Today, for no particular reason, I decided to publish the list. So here it goes.

1. New Blog

I’ve been cheating on this blog. After a decade and a half of writing about personal finance, I got the itch to write about something new. So I bought a domain and started writing posts. I’m oddly excited about it.

2. I Turned Down a Job

This week I turned down a job offer. I’ve only had one interview, so turning this job down seems like it might be the dumbest thing I could ever do. But here I am, doing it anyway.

The truth is, I didn’t think I could make it to work and get the kids to school on time. My oldest said he’d make sure they weren’t late for the bus, but I didn’t want to risk it. Plus, the job was further than I wanted to commute.

It’s a bummer because the interviewers were super passionate about their jobs, and their joy for work was contagious.

But alas, it’s not meant to be. So I’m back to the drawing board without any leads.

3. I Started Freelancing Again

Every once in a while, someone reaches out and asks me to write an article for them. A few weeks ago, I decided to start freelancing. If you’re looking for a writer, let me know.

Researching new topics and getting paid to write about them is fun. Yesterday, an editor told me they hit submit without changing a word! That’s pretty exciting!

4. Missing My Dad

Some days I miss my dad immensely. I used to call him after dropping my kids off in the morning or on my way to the store. He died in May, but every so often, I reach out to call. Then the harsh reminder strikes that he’s not there.

I keep looking for signs that he’s keeping a watchful eye on me and joke when I wake in the morning and find the kitchen cabinet slightly ajar.

This week a reader left me a comment on an old post. It’s not unusual to receive comments, but this one sounded just like my dad.

5. Made My First Printables on Etsy

When I was sick in bed a few weeks ago, I created a printable for Etsy. I didn’t have the brainpower to write or the energy to exercise, so I sat in bed and made Valentine’s bingo cards.

A few days later, I randomly applied for a job at a local school and asked the director of my son’s former school if she would provide a recommendation. She was happy to help me. To thank her, I sent her my Valentine’s bingo game.

Yesterday, I made my first Etsy sale.

6. Today I’m Bummed

Today I’m bummed. I had plans to do a bunch of tasks this morning, but it’s nearly two o’clock, and I have yet to accomplish much of anything. It’s time to get outside to clear my mind before my kids come home.

Do you ever write random notes to yourself? What do they say?
