One Frugal Girl

An Eco-Friendly and Cost Conscious Laundry Alternative

Last updated on November 19, 2019 by One Frugal Girl43 Comments

I’m constantly on the search for products that benefit both the earth and my wallet. While searching for an alternative to laundry detergent and dryer sheets I came across the Complete Laundry System. The system includes one round laundry ball and two pointy shaped dryer balls.

The laundry ball is placed into your washing machine without any laundry detergent. I wondered how this tiny little laundry ball could clean my clothes without any soap. According to the manufacturer the tiny ball creates an energy field when agitated in the machine, which thins the water and helps it move through the fibers of your clothing.

I will admit that I was skeptical at first. I stuck the ball in a dirty load of laundry with some of my husband’s stinkiest t-shirts. I thought for sure that they would still smell when I pulled them from the washer, but as unbelievable as it may seem the clothes came out smelling fresh and clean.

Then I tried the dryer balls. My husband and I actually hang all of our laundry to dry on a pipe in the basement, but we do run the clothes through the dryer on ‘air’, with a dryer sheet, just to fluff them and get the wrinkles out. My husband was very skeptical of the balls and claimed they wouldn’t soften the clothes the way he likes. We tossed the dry laundry into the dryer and added the two pointy shaped balls. Fifteen minutes later we pulled out soft, wrinkle-free shirts. Admittedly the clothes weren’t quite as soft as they are when using dryer sheets, but they were plenty soft and wrinkle free.

The best part about the Complete Laundry System is that the dryer balls are designed to last a lifetime and even more importantly they replace those awful dryer sheets! The laundry ball is designed to last at least three years or 2,000 washes, whichever comes first.

Mystic Wonders has kindly offered a Complete Laundry System to one reader of One Frugal Girl. For an opportunity to win please leave a comment below telling me why you’d like to try this product. This giveaway will end Monday, May 18th.

I’d love a set! I’d like to save money and help the environment by using less detergent. I have my drain line piped out into the yard so I don’t have to irrigate and I’m able to reuse the wash water. The problem is I’m still contaminating the ground due to the detergent. This system would be perfect!

    I’m skeptical.

Did you try washing the stinky t-shirts without detergent OR a random “energy ball”? Because you know, water cleans things too…

I would love to get it as well. We have 4 adults and 1 baby in the house. I do at least 5 loads of laundry each week. With this system, I can reduce the chemcial we use and it is so much more enviornment friendly.

I’m skeptical. If the laundry ball actually works, I’d personally sell them for the company by telling everyone I know. Who wouldn’t like to do away with the ongoing cost of detergent (not to mention doing away with chemicals)? I’m very interested in seeing if it actually works.

An ‘energy field?’ Hmmm, I’d like to check that out. Scientifically. I’ve been trying to reduce my dependence on chemicals like detergent for a while now–i’d heard of the dryer balls, but not of the laundry ball!

I too am skeptical and would love to try out that laundry ball. I’d use the dryer balls too, and hope to convince my husband not to buy anymore dryer sheets. Thanks for the chance to win this great green product.

Rini — After reading this post my husband asked me to run an experiment sometime next week. He wants me to wash a shirt in just water, then with the laundry ball, then with the detergent. He too thinks water alone would work just as well as the laundry ball.

I have the dryer balls and found they worked ok, then one day last winter one of them mysteriously dissappeared. We were working in the yard the other day and one of my friendly dogs brought me a ball to throw. Guess what it was? I’ll tell ya though, I can probably run it through the dishwasher and put it straight back into the dryer. It was perfectly intact.

I would love to get rid of all those detergents and things and just have three little balls to deal with. The mess, the caps not put back on all the way, (thanks to kids) the constant trash, the clutter. All gone! Plus I would love to not have soap in all my sheets and towels. Imagine how much softer they would feel without all of that junk in them! You know it never really rinses well enough in a rinse cycle.

Aaah, i read that the ‘energy field’ reduces the surface tension of the water. How, i have no idea, but that is how detergent works, as well…if i can figure out how whatever is in the ball creates that energy field, I would be willing to admit that this could work!

I would love to solve this mystery. I’m such a scientist…i need to know how things WORK before I can believe in them!

I’d absolutely love to win this set. I use cloth diapers, and I have to use alot of detergent to get them to smell fresh,(on top of using baking soda, vinegar, and line drying) but my son has very sensitive skin, and even the “free and clear” detergents cause a rash. Even if I don’t win I will most likely look at buying a set, but the cost is a bit prohibitive right now as we are on a very limited income.

My husband and I are in the process of buying and house. As a result, we will have a washer and dryer of our own for the very first time! Of course, we have to buy them, as well as pay for various other small home improvements, so we are also looking to save money everywhere that we can. I think this laundry system would help with that.

That sounds amazing. I have taken to making my own laundry soap in an effort to be more economical. I still buy the fabric softener (when I hang things on the line) or dryer sheets to help with wrinkles and scent. I would love to give these a try and eliminate the softener and laundry soap from my budget. I just hope it can get all the dirt out that my farmer husband puts into his clothes.

    Thanks,

I would like to win this to save money on detergents/fabric softener/dryer sheets. Also, this would save me worrying about whether one of my children will react to the chemicals/scents in the detergents, etc. Also, it’s better for the environment to not be using those harmful chemicals and that’s always something I do when possible.

Oooh, Can I please be the winner? With three kids and two dogs it seems as if we’re constantly doing laundry. Just the idea of not having to constantly worry about detergent or letting the kids help by tossing in the laundry balls is such an exciting prospect! That and I don’t use dryer sheets so those dryer balls will be perfect for our summertime “natural” line drying then fluffing in the dryer sessions ๐Ÿ˜€
Thanks for the post and I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed ๐Ÿ˜€

money is tight, tempers are short,
Ive been asked by hydro to cut my bill,
they have put me on the smart meter,
doing laundry now not whenever I want,
the heavy pails of laundry soap, would be no more,
the fact of those 3 little balls,
would help me with the laundry chore,
we all want to win this incredible prize,
but I will use it, really I would, no more laundry soap or dryer sheets, using 3 balls more.

I would like to try this product because it does not add any harmful chemicals to the water going down the drain! This is especially critical for us in So. Cal. where we will pretty soon be forced to use “grey” water for watering lawns and gardens!

I would love to try these laundry balls. I am a stay at home mom and we are always trying to save money and this would be great. Also both I and my children have very sensitive skin so I have to buy the more expensive detergent that is dye and perfume free. We also can not use fabric softener at all because of our skin. This would be a great alternative.

Unfortunately, the dryer balls work by breaking the fibers of your clothes. The added 'softness' comes from the broken ends. So while it may be 'environmentally friendly' in that no chemicals are used, your clothes will degrade faster and need to be replaced sooner… thereby ending up in the landfill sooner.
