An Unexpected Pregnancy Expense

When I created the initial list of pregnancy and baby related expenses I considered medical care, hospital stays, nursery furniture and general baby care items like diapers and clothing. I didn’t create a budget for myself, but I did review prices and use coupons whenever possible.

One thing I did not consider adding to the list was maternity photos, but the minute my husband suggested a photo shoot with one of his photographer buddies I jumped on board. We drove over to the photographer’s house last week and spent two to three hours tromping around fields and woods in search of the perfect light and background scenery.

Since my husband typically takes pictures he’s often behind the camera and rarely in front of it. It was nice to spend quality time posing with him and I’m thrilled to have pictures that actually include both of us.

I have no idea how the photos turned out, (we’ve only seen a handful so far), but regardless of whether they are good or not it’s one of those moments in time I wouldn’t have missed. This pregnancy has been absolutely amazing and I feel so blessed and fortunate that my husband and I are about to be joined by our little one. In fact, I recently asked my husband to take more photos so we can look back and remember this time in our lives before children.

I know a lot of people would view maternity photos as an unnecessary expense, but I can’t think of any way I would have rather spent the money!

  1. Yes, a photographer can be expensive, but their pics are so great though! We have a family friend that does photography, he did our wedding….but he's expensive…but SO worth it!

  2. Definitely worth the expense. You can never go back and do it over again. I regret that I didn't do it and I cherish the few random pictures I have when I was prego. Enjoy!

  3. This sounds like a wonderful expense. I'm sure the session will lead to perfect pictures! Our daughter is 1 year old now (we have 2 girls) and parenthood is amazing and profoundly life-changing unlike anything else. I hope your medical expenses are covered by insurance so you aren't shelling out for that, too!

  4. Thanks for the comments. Photos do last forever and they are such a good way to reflect on the moments of our lives. Pregnancy has been so amazing for me that I couldn't let the moment pass without capturing it!
