On Thursday we arrived in North Carolina for a week long vacation with friends and family. I’ve been vacationing in the Outer Banks for the last twelve years and my husband has been coming here since he was a very small child. Since we bought a home down here in 2005 the Outer Banks has truly become a home away from home for us. In fact, it often feels more like home than our primary residence.
While I spend the majority of my vacation lounging by the ocean and swimming in our heated pool, my husband tends to work on do-it-yourself projects around the house. Over the years with help from Homeclick he’s fixed, adjusted, painted, washed and repaired just about every square inch of the house. When I think about vacation I picture a tall glass of water, a sunny afternoon with a light breeze and a big lounge chair. My husband envisions a new do-it-yourself project. So while I lounge poolside with a good book my hubby goes to work improving the house and making things better.
I get up every so often to check on his progress and help him along the way, but for the most part it is 100% of his energy and determination that improves our home. (Funny enough, he’s much more of a fix-it-man down in North Carolina than he is in our primary home back in Maryland.) His hard work has really paid off. Our second home is a dream. Honestly, it feels like a special, magical place to me.
Through my husband’s efforts we’ve saved a ton of money. Sure we hired contractors to remodel the bathroom and paint the ceiling beams, but otherwise my husband has performed all of the work himself. So when women joke about marrying for looks or money or whatever the thing is other than love, I always add “marry a man who loves do-it-yourself projects”. Of course, I married for love so the fact that he loves do-it-yourself projects is just a bonus, but I can’t even begin to fathom how much money we’ve saved by his projects over the years.
Can we clone your husband? He sounds like a keeper.
