I’ve thought a lot about those bloggers who have given up their day jobs in exchange for writing about the same personal finance topics day after day. I wonder how they keep their sanity. I suppose it would be the same for any niche newspaper or magazine writer who focuses on the same topic for years on end. I wonder if they ever stare at the screen in front of them and think “what more can I say?”
Although I started this blog many years ago, it is far from my solitary focus. Many days I wake up and think I just can’t blog today. I just don’t have anything else to say on the matter of money and finance. Sometimes I start to blog on a topic only to realize that I’ve discussed that same idea many times before.
My RSS reader is filled with personal finance feeds, but as the days and months wear on I find pf bloggers discussing the same topics over and over. I know a couple of bloggers have given up their keyboards in pursuit of other adventures, but for every one that quits it seems ten more jump on board.
Money plays such a prevalent role in our lives. Even on the days that I don’t blog I find myself earning, spending, saving or investing the mighty dollar. I maintain this blog as a way to track my thoughts and journal my financial decisions and I can honestly say, without a shadow of a doubt, that I never expected to reach more than 600 subscribers. I am thrilled that some of you find my thoughts and rants interesting enough to read on a fairly regular basis.
I’ve thought about broadening the focus of this blog or perhaps pursuing another blog in addition to this one. As my finances fall more and more into order I find it more and more difficult to focus on money. Perhaps it’s an issue of pursuits. When I struggle with money I find I have a lot to say on the matter, but when the cash reserves multiply and the mortgages shrink I seem to have less and less to say on the topic.
Money is such an important part of our lives and I wish they would teach about it in schools. I think your blog is great and if you do start another blog I would love to know what it is.

I for one would love to hear more about how you've managed to pay for both a regular home and a vacation one, as well. Are both paid for? How did you choose the NC one? Are the renters paying for the NC one?

I think a lot of "living below our means" is what we DON'T do. That is hard to write about.
