I haven’t written a link love post in quite awhile, so without further ado here are a few links from the last month or so that I really enjoyed:

My husband is not the best at celebrating birthdays and anniversaries, but the remaining days of the year he is the most caring and sweet man to bless this earth. Honestly I don’t think he sees any reason to focus on a special day. I also think he feels pressured to choose the perfect activity, the perfect gift, and the perfect meal.
I always tell him it’s just the thought that counts and I certainly don’t need expensive gifts, but nevertheless he seems to dread special occasions. This year I wrote an instruction manual for my birthday and in retrospect I should have written a similar manual for our anniversary, because when he woke up I could sense that familiar trepidation.
So I took the day by the reigns and planned our activities. A good friend gave my husband a gift certificate to a tiny, upscale restaurant back in January. We intended to make our way up there for months, but never seemed to find the time to make the trip. Today seemed like the perfect day for a drive so we took a leisurely 40 minute trip north and ended up at an adorable little restaurant where we dined on sliders and pizza and the most decadent creme brulee with chocolate ganache I’ve ever eaten in my life.
We drove to the hardware store after lunch and purchased a fire pit for our backyard patio. If the rain hadn’t come I’m sure we would’ve spent the evening roasting s’mores, but as the weather pressed on we moved the festivities inside and stacked wood in our indoor fireplace.
We spent the evening preparing vodka cream sauce for dinner and tikka masala for this week’s lunches. There is no place I’d rather be than cutting up vegetables and stirring delicious sauces beside my husband. It’s one area of our lives that has truly blossomed since our marriage six years ago.
I can’t imagine a world without my husband. Happy anniversary! What a perfect way to celebrate it.

I’ve been swamped with work for days and weeks on end and my poor RSS reader is packed to the brim with tons of great posts I’ll just never get around to reading. I clicked on a few of my favorite bloggers and decided to mark the rest as read in order to get on to more important things. So without further ado here are a few of my favorite posts from the past few weeks:

My RSS reader was filled to the brim with a week’s worth of feeds from some of my favorite bloggers. While I haven’t had time to read through all of them I did find a few posts that caught my attention, so without further ado here is a sampling of my favorites:

In an effort to stay away from the brain drain of my computer I’ve been reading books and playing outside the last few weeks. In fact, I find myself deleting much of the posts in my RSS reader without even reading them.
If I like an article I usually open it in a different tab and breeze through it when time allows. Lately I find it harder and harder to find the time to go back to the list of open tabs, but this afternoon I took a few minutes and found a couple of posts I really enjoyed.

I spent quite a few hours this week calculating and recalculating terms, rates and loan amounts in an attempt to determine whether or not my husband and I should refinance one or both of our mortgages. So far it looks like a wash. In fact, by the time we pay closing costs and deal with the hassle of the loan process we’re probably better off not refinancing. On the other hand I do like the idea of shrinking our monthly mortgage payments by a few hundred dollars each month.
In general I’d like to see more money piling into savings. I investigated our recent expenses and tried to figure out where we could trim a few more expenses. I spent so much time crunching numbers that I’ve had little time to do much else this week. In fact, my RSS reader was so backed up that at one point I found six hundred unread posts awaiting me. I certainly didn’t read all of them, instead I skimmed over the titles of my favorite feeds and discarded the rest. So without further ado here are my favorite posts. It’s a pretty short list this week:
