I Spent How Much?

I need to keep myself away from stores both virtual and brick and mortar. In the past three weeks I purchased:

  • 4 pairs of capris
  • 4 pairs of leggings
  • 2 dresses
  • 2 short sleeved sweaters
  • 2 work shirts
  • 1 skirt
  • 1 pair of yoga pants
  • 1 pair of sandals

I spent a total of $395.96.

Here’s a breakdown of my costs by store and purchase:

  • $14.49 – eBay (leggings)
  • $78.89 – Ross (4 pairs capris, 1 pair yoga pants, 1 work shirt, leggings)
  • $23.30 – Target (2 short sleeved sweaters)
  • $81.59 – Marshalls (2 summer dresses, 1 work shirt, 1 pair of sandals)
  • $197.69 – Gap (2 pairs of jeans, 2 pairs of leggings, 1 skirt)

Even with 30% off of most of my purchases at the Gap I still think I paid too much. I cut the tags off a skirt I purchased there then realized I don’t really love it. The jeans haven’t arrived yet, so I’m not certain if they’ll need to be shipped back to the store, but everything else will probably remain in my closet.

I found my best bargains at eBay, Ross and Target. I can’t believe how many items I bought at Ross. Most were $10.99 or less. The yoga pants were less than $7 and the leggings just under $4. In retrospect I wish I’d checked there before buying from the Gap. The leggings at the gap were $20. Plus, if I go to Target again, I’ll definitely see what kinds of Target coupons are floating around the internet.

I followed my rule and cleaned out my drawers a few days after shopping. I have a number of items for the donation center. Most of them are in perfectly good shape, I just realized I didn’t wear them all winter for one reason or another.

The employees in my new office wear much nicer clothes than in my old one, so I am still on the lookout for a couple of nice shirts for work. Hopefully that search won’t get me in too much trouble.

  1. I have found very nice shirts for work at Goodwill, Salvation Army, and Savers. You just have to look. One awesome thing about Savers is that they have clothes sorted by size–much easier to find things than at Goodwill and Salvation Army, but still fun to browse too.

  2. @danielleS87 – I have a hard time finding sizes that fit me. Are you a standard size, it seems like there are much more options available if you fall somewhere in the middle.

  3. I have shopped at thrift stores for years and it has been insurance for our budget. The only thing is that you need to go often. That always leads to finding the best options. They have so many different sizes but you do have to dig around sometimes.
